Author Jennie Goutet

FAQ

Jennie Goutet writes clean historical romance novels filled with emotional connection, strong character development, and satisfying happily-ever-afters. Her stories focus on romance, family, friendship, and adventure without explicit bedroom scenes.

Clean or closed-door historical romance means the romance stays behind closed doors. This is sometimes also called romance with no spice. My books may include kissing and romantic tension, but they do not contain explicit sexual content or graphic scenes.

There is sometimes crossover with sweet romance, but that description does not guarantee a book free of explicit content or swearing.

Inspirational romance is also generally free of explicit content, but it includes an element of faith as part of the plot.

That is what differentiates the terms clean and wholesome, no-spice, closed door, sweet, and inspirational romance. Some crossover, but not exactly the same.

Generally, yes. My books are written for adults but are suitable for many teen readers who enjoy historical romance without explicit content.

If there is any trigger warning, it’s listed in the book’s description. (Triggers include emotional abuse in one book, extensive talk of consummation in another that is more appropriate for an adult rather than young teen, and some non-glorified violence and substance abuse in the two contemporary books).

My historical romance novels are set in the Georgian, Regency, and Victorian eras (1770-1870) and take place in England, France, and other places in Europe.

If you’re new to Jennie Goutet’s books, A Fall from Grace, the first in the Clavering Chronicles series, is a great place to start. That whole series seems to be a favorite.

All of my books can be read independently, but some books set in a series are best enjoyed in order. The series pages and reading guide both indicate the recommended reading order for books that are part of the same series.

Other books are stand-alone or are part of a multi-author series. Those books can be read apart without reading the rest of the series. Of course, it also gives you a chance to discover other authors who write in a similar genre.

My books include many favorite historical romance tropes such as:

  • Marriage of convenience
  • Childhood friends to lovers
  • Enemies to lovers
  • Slow burn romance
  • Second chance romance
  • Forced proximity
  • Fake engagement
  • Protective hero
  • Cinnamon roll hero
  • Strong heroine
  • He falls first
  • She falls first
  • In love with best friend’s brother
  • Opposites attract

… and more!

Yes! I’m an American author permanently based in France (married to a Frenchman and now with dual citizenship). Living in Europe gives me a unique perspective when it comes to writing historical fiction that is set here.

I get this a lot. Goutet is pronounced Goo-tay.
